Which adhesive tape
for which use?
Workshop
transparent tape
Nice to put your templates near your working space or to connect parts of paper models.
common types of adhesive tapes
parcel tape
The name says it all ;-)
painter’s tape
Inexpensive, easy to apply even on rounded parts, easy to tear off, very good adhesion:
Nice for paper and cardboard models and short term fixing of nonpainted Worbla and EVA foam parts.
You can also use it to hold larger film covers in place when you’re working with spray tools.
masking tape
A little more expensive than painter's tape, but perfect for covering parts that have already been painted! It also has good adhesion but does not rip off the paint.
duct tape
Here comes the one with the strong adhesion and high stability thanks to the included mesh.
Perfect for creating a stiff shell when you put it in one to two layers over cling film to create shapes that you can cut in later for your own templates.
double-sided tape
This is available in very different widths and enables parts to be quickly assembled face-to-face.
It's very adhesive! If you want to remove parts later, carefully apply the tape to a clean surface a few times to make it less sticky.
aluminum adhesive tape
Since aluminum is partially fireproof and can withstand severe frost, it cannot become brittle and is therefore particularly suitable for sealing, insulating and wrapping metal pipes or similar. In cosplay it is most useful as a quick chrome effect for smaller parts.
insulating tape
This comes in many different colors. It’s well suited for permanently marking cables in color. But there are safer ways to connect cables together properly!
Painter’s tape also works very nice as an protective pad under the tip of your hot glue gun.
extra tips for painter's tape
You can use it instead of a lint roller for quick hair removal!
Be careful with your good parts: Don’t let it stick to a piece for more than two weeks or in direct sunlight: It will leave ugly glue traces on your part and can even become brittle.
