TO DO
staff, LED & fog effects

I’ve been fascinated by the Ethereals in World of Warcraft ever since I first encountered them in Nagrand during the days of The Burning Crusade. The campaign for The War Within was the final straw: This guy is just an amazing character, and he embodies so much of what I love about cosplay – a mysterious backstory, elaborate armor, cool skull details, bandages, a concealed face, impressive props, light and fog effects... so it wasn’t a hard decision to invest several hundred hours of work into this cosplay.

the making-of

I've started working on this cosplay in June 2025 and continued right up until the night before the Leipzig Book Fair in March 2026. I still plan to add a few finishing touches such as subtle lighting and fog effects, as well as his staff by the time of Connichi this fall.

Using the 3D model, I was able to create most of the patterns myself in Blender and bring them to life in EVA foam. I separated the skulls on his hip armor from the in-game model and had them 3D-printed, so I could sand them down, paint them, and meticulously apply the bandages according to the template.

For his astral body, I had a custom-made Zentai suit crafted according to my specifications. Underneath this, there will be LEDs and tubes that emit fog later.

It was a blast wearing my cosplay for the first time at LBM 2026: So many surprised faces, great conversations, and wonderful encounters made the convention an unforgettable experience!
